# Universal Search

> Jump to anything with Cmd K.

Press <kbd>Cmd</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> (or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>K</kbd> on Windows) anywhere in Proprietas to open universal search. It's the fastest way to move around — no clicking through menus.

## What You Can Find

One search box, everything in it:

* **Properties and sites** — jump straight to a property's page
* **Compliance obligations** — find a regime on a property and its status
* **Leases** — open a lease by tenant or address
* **Documents** — locate a certificate or a PDF you've uploaded
* **People** — members, contractors and tenants
* **Pages and actions** — navigate to any part of the app, or trigger an action without leaving the keyboard

## How It Works

Start typing and results group by type as you go. Use the arrow keys to move through them and <kbd>Enter</kbd> to open — your hands never leave the keyboard. Search respects your active [property scope](/interface/navigating#property-scope), so when you're focused on one site, its results come first.

<Note>
  Documents marked as **[sensitive](/security/overview#sensitive-documents)** don't appear in Cmd K results for anyone but an organisation admin — their titles never surface in search to other members. Sensitive documents are visible only to admins everywhere they appear, search included.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Treat Cmd K as your default way to navigate. It's almost always faster than the sidebar once a workspace has more than a handful of properties.
</Tip>

## Search vs the Assistant

Search **takes you to** something that exists — a page, a record, an action. The [assistant](/interface/assistant) **answers questions** about your portfolio ("which sites have an overdue EICR?"). Reach for search when you know what you're looking for; reach for the assistant when you have a question.
