# Plans & AI Usage

> Tiers, seats, AI fair-use and how credit top-ups work.

Proprietas is published pricing — every tier is on one page, with a single annual/monthly toggle. Manage your subscription under **Settings → Billing**.

## Switching Tiers

Change tier any time from **Settings → Billing**:

* **Upgrades** take effect immediately, with a prorated charge for the rest of the period.
* **Downgrades** take effect at your next renewal, so you keep what you've paid for.

## AI Usage and Credit Top-Ups

Each lease, certificate or document the AI reads is one **extraction**. Identical files aren't charged twice — a re-read of the same document and schema is served from cache, so you never pay for the same PDF twice.

Every plan includes a generous AI **fair-use** allowance — effectively unlimited for normal use. You're never billed per document and there's no rate card to track:

* See exactly where you are with the **fair-use bars** under Billing — daily and weekly, with a live reset countdown.
* Go beyond the allowance in a busy month and you can **top up AI credit** in one click. Additional usage is then drawn from that credit **at cost** — you pay the underlying AI provider's price for the extra calls, with no markup games.

## Trial and Lapses

New workspaces get a **14-day trial** with no card. If a trial lapses without a subscription, the editor app is paused at a paywall until you subscribe — your data is untouched, and light users keep reporting through the portal.

## Your Data

Files live in UK/EU storage and are served only through short-lived private links. Sensitive personal data is encrypted at the column level. See the [security posture](https://proprietas.app/security) for the full picture.
